Cyterra GmbH
About us
Designing new-to-nature terpenes for next-generation ingredients.
Cyterra develops programmable terpene chemistry to unlock new ingredient opportunities in flavors, fragrances, repellents, and adjacent specialty markets.
By combining deep-chemistry-guided enzyme engineering, biocatalysis, and bioprocess design, Cyterra creates access to both established terpene products and new-to-nature terpene ingredients with novel performance profiles.
Built on a strong scientific track record and an industry-oriented development model, the company’s vertically integrated technology stack enables faster development cycles, greater predictability, and scalable routes to differentiated molecular value.
Based in Mainz, Cyterra is building new biological value chains for industries where innovation, quality, and supply security are critical. We turn terpene complexity into your competitive advantage.

Products & Services
1. Products
A. Terpene ingredients
Cyterra develops terpene-based ingredients for applications in flavors, fragrances, repellents, and potentially pharma- and vitamin-adjacent markets. This includes both known terpene targets and new-to-nature terpene structures with novel performance profiles.
B. New-to-nature molecules / Xenoterpenes
A core product category is the creation of xenoterpenes: terpene structures that do not exist in nature or are not accessible through conventional manufacturing routes, but may offer new olfactive, functional, or commercial properties.
C. Target molecules and samples
Cyterra provides fast-track target validation through analytical samples, 500 mg to gram-scale samples, and later optimized pilot-scale samples for customer evaluation, especially in fragrance and ingredient discovery workflows.
2. Services
A. Enzymatic route development
Cyterra designs and develops new enzymatic routes to terpene molecules, improving step count, selectivity, cost-of-goods, and scalability relative to traditional chemistry, extraction, or fermentation-based approaches.
B. Ingredient discovery for partners
Cyterra works with industrial partners to discover new terpene-derived molecules with differentiated olfactive or functional properties and protectable IP. This includes target definition, screening, hit identification, sample generation, and iterative optimization.
C. Platform-enabled co-development
Cyterra offers co-development projects in which customers gain access to its terpene enzyme platform, including cyclases, hydratases, and methyl transferases, to solve specific ingredient or route challenges.
